MBT & MSBC Speaker Series - Employee Essentials
Presented in partnership between the Markham Board of Trade and the Markham Small Business Centre, this Speaker Series will cover a wide array of “Employer Essentials” topics.
This session will cover the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Workplace Health and Safety (WSIB).
Employment Standard and The Business Case for Creating Inclusive Workplaces
Presented by Louie Di Palma, Director, SME Programs at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, attendees will learn about the business case for hiring people with disabilities and the requirements of the Employment Standard under the AODA and how having an inclusive workplace and an accessible organization makes good business sense.
Workplace Health and Safety for Small Businesses
Keeping your workplace healthy and safe is very important for small business, since work related injuries can be costly. Many employers do not understand their Health and Safety responsibilities and legal obligations. Presented by Lesia Conneely, Small Business Health and Safety Consultant for Workplace Health and Safety Services, attendees will learn how to keep your workplace healthy and safe and how to comply with health and safety laws.
The target audience for these sessions would be new business owners or entrepreneurs, as well as HR managers who are new to their roles, with the goal of providing them with information required to effectively operate their business.
